Janelle Guthrie

Janelle Guthrie, APR, Fellow PRSA, leads strategic communications for the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW), the state’s largest trade association, representing over 8,200 members in the residential construction industry. She has more than 25 years of experience in public affairs, government and corporate communications.

Guthrie has held senior communications roles for Washington Attorneys General Rob McKenna and Bob Ferguson, Microsoft, the Washington State Senate and two other state agencies. She served as public information officer for the Washington Department of Corrections’ Emergency Operations Center during the pandemic, co-managed national communications for the historic national mortgage settlement and led Attorney General McKenna’s Pillars of Hope campaign to combat human trafficking.

A graduate of Washington State University with degrees in communications and political science, Guthrie serves on the National Board of Directors for the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She earned induction into the PRSA College of Fellows in 2017 and has won multiple awards for public affairs and community service, including the national PRSA Lloyd B. Dennis Award for excellence in public affairs.
