The Murrow Standard

The annual Murrow Symposium upholds ‘The Murrow Standard’ by creating a forum where truth, ethics, and integrity are not just discussed—they are lived. Through thought-provoking conversations with industry leaders, recognition of courageous voices, and opportunities for students to engage with real-world challenges, the Symposium ensures Murrow’s values remain a guiding light for the future of communication.

Built on legacy.

For fifty years, the Murrow Symposium has honored Edward R. Murrow’s unwavering commitment to truth, integrity, and courageous storytelling. As we celebrate this milestone, we build on his legacy, advancing the principles he championed and inspiring future generations to lead with clarity, ethics, and purpose in a rapidly evolving media landscape.

Defining the future.

At the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, we don’t just prepare students for the future; we empower them to create it. Guided by Murrow’s enduring values of truth and integrity, we ignite curiosity, foster innovation, and inspire bold voices to lead in a world where communication shapes everything.

Murrow Lifetime Achievement Honoree

Ana Cabrera

The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University is honored to announce that Ana Cabrera, nationally recognized journalist, MS NOW anchor and Murrow College alumna, will receive the Edward R. Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism at the 50th Murrow Symposium on April 6-8, 2026. Cabrera, who graduated summa cum laude from the Murrow College in 2004 with degrees in Communication and Foreign Languages and Cultures, will also deliver an acceptance address at the Lifetime Achievement Ceremony event on Tuesday, April 7.

Cabrera’s career reflects a trajectory defined by rigorous reporting, clarity of storytelling, and dedication to the public interest. She began at KHQ-TV in Spokane before moving to KMGH-TV in Denver, where her coverage of the High Park Fire earned an Emmy Award and contributed to a Mark Twain Award–winning morning broadcast.

She later joined CNN as a correspondent and anchor, reporting on major national and international events, including the unrest in Ferguson, the Charlottesville rally, and the London Bridge attack. Now the anchor of a two-hour block of MS NOW Reports, Cabrera continues to shape national conversations through incisive, community-centered journalism.
