David Fischer is the president and general manager of KNKX Public Radio. Prior to joining there in 2024, Fischer served as CEO of Tacoma Arts Live for nearly 18 years. He previously served many years as CEO at the Luther Burbank Center in Santa Rosa, CA, where he helped lead the development of a new Sonoma County hospital. His 35 years in nonprofit service include work as a professional actor, TV news reporter/producer, and a studio team member in urban planning under architect Lawrence Halprin. He was also board president of various nonprofits including, Western Arts Alliance, Arts Network of Washington State, and Cultural Access WA. The latter agency secured state legislation to allow communities to tax themselves in support of arts, science and culture, and since its adoption has been deployed in King, Pierce and Thurston Counties. He co-led the first successful campaign for such local cultural funding for Washington State in Tacoma. Fischer is a native of Sacramento and received his BA from State University of NY, Albany; his MFA from San Francisco State University; and an Executive Management MBA Certificate from Stanford.
