Kol Medina

Kol Medina has served as the the President and CEO of community foundations
for 14 years. He’s been back in his rural home town of Walla Walla for 5 years now,
running the Blue Mountain Community Foundation.

Kol is one of the founding Board members of the Washington News Fund, a new effort aimed at raising funds to strengthen journalism across Washington state, and is a member of the APTS Leadership Council.

Prior to this, he served at Kitsap Community Foundation, which is in a suburban/urban part of Washington State. During his time in Kitsap, he also served as an elected Bainbridge Island City
Council Member and Mayor of Bainbridge Island. He has served on the Boards of
Directors of twenty different nonprofit organizations and, working as an attorney, has
assisted scores of nonprofit organizations. Before leading nonprofit organizations, he worked for three years at a prestigious law firm in Seattle, Washington. Prior to law school, he served for two years in the Peace Corps with his wife, Elsa, in Guinea-Bissau, Africa. He received his J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2001 and a B.A. from Carleton College in environmental studies in 1996.
