Bruce Amundson

Bruce Amundson (’75) built a distinguished career in corporate communications over nearly four decades, blending his journalistic roots with a focus on media relations in the telecommunications and forest products industries.

Although Amundson earned his degree in political science, his passion for communication flourished during his four years with The Daily Evergreen, where he was a writer and editor. During this time as a reporter at the now‑defunct Journal‑American in Bellevue, he covered several high-profile events including a Rose Bowl, and penned a feature on Ann Wilson of the rock band Heart.

Amundson had a lengthy and impactful career in corporate communications including head of internal and external communications for Weyerhaeuser, a global leader in wood products manufacturing.

Following his retirement in 2011, Amundson remained deeply connected to WSU and Murrow College. He served as both a chair and member of the Murrow Professional Advisory Board and also participated in the dean search that resulted in the appointment of Bruce Pinkleton. Currently, Amundson serves on the Board of Directors of the WSU Foundation, where he chairs the Murrow component of WSU’s ongoing capital campaign.
